Crypto trading bot review: where to look in a forum post before trusting the profit screenshot

A profit screenshot goes up on a forum board. The line climbs to the top right, and the title says the poster ran a trading bot for a month.

Replies ask which program it is. The poster drops a link.

That is the usual shape of a crypto trading bot review in a forum. This post sorts out where to start reading one, with six checks drawn from regulators' rules, a consumer alert and a research paper.

1.Three parts of a single review

A review has three parts: the writer's link to the program, the picture that shows the profit, and the story of where the profit comes from. The six checks below go through them in order, with the first two on the link, the middle two on the picture and the story, and the last two on where the money goes and on review sites.

Keep the order.

2.Crypto trading bot review checklist: six lines

The first five checks. The sixth, for review sites, is written out separately below.

One: is there an ad label in the title or first line

Korea's Fair Trade Commission endorsement guidelines have required, since December 1, 2024, that blog and online cafe posts put the economic interest label in the title or the opening (endorsement guidelines). Before that, a label at the end of the post was read as enough.

Economic interest: money, free products, discounts or ties such as a job or family link to the advertiser.

Two: does the writer earn when readers sign up through the link

The same revision says future or conditional interests must be disclosed too. A commission paid later on sales through a review link is the example (Shin & Kim summary).

For a review with a link, first check whether that link pays the writer.

Wording that leaves it vague, like "may receive a small fee", is the guidelines' example of an unclear label.

The guidebook the Commission put out in December 2025 also counts a review written to be picked as a best reviewer as a conditional benefit (Aju News).

Three: is the profit chart a backtest or a live account

A backtest applies the rules to past prices, so it can differ from what the same rules do going forward. Quantopian researchers set the backtests of 888 trading strategies against at least 6 months of live results that came after (Wiecki et al., SSRN).

The backtest Sharpe ratio explained less than 2.5% of the later results (R² under 0.025). The more a strategy had been backtested, the wider the gap between backtest and live results.

The same paper found real predictive value in volatility and maximum drawdown. A review that shows only the return and not the deepest drop leaves that box empty.

Four: do AI, arbitrage and daily payouts show up together

Korea's Financial Supervisory Service issued consumer alert 2025-6 on March 7, 2025. It covered a firm that took coin deposits, saying AI arbitrage between exchanges would pay 1.8~4.6% of the profit in coins every day (FSS press release).

Such firms lean on hard terms like quant trading, AI and arbitrage, according to the alert. Its ad example promised profit equal to the principal in 34 days.

The alert notes that the promised payouts may actually arrive at first.

A review that shows the first month's deposit cannot settle the question on its own.

Five: is the money going to a registered provider

The fork is whether the program only places orders on the user's own exchange account, or asks for coins to be sent to the firm's site. The same alert says to check registered virtual asset service providers in the notices on the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit site.

No investment product keeps principal intact, says the alert. Pay for recruiting others points to a pyramid.

Six: for review sites in English

The US Federal Trade Commission announced a rule against fake reviews on August 14, 2024, and it took effect on October 21, 2024 (FTC press release).

It bans fake reviews including AI-generated ones, insider reviews that hide the connection, and sites a company controls while posing as independent reviewers. On a ranking page of bots, check who runs the site first.

3.After the checks

Put the screen in the review next to the real exchange screen and match the numbers for the same period.
▲ Put the screen in the review next to the real exchange screen and match the numbers for the same period.

If a review passes all six, match the same period against the actual exchange screens. If a pitch asks for coins to be deposited or promises daily profit, report it to the police or the financial regulator where you live.

4.Frequently asked questions

Q.Do ad label rules apply to anonymous forum reviews?

A.What the guidelines ask is whether there is an economic interest between the writer and the advertiser. When the writer is anonymous that is hard to see, so start with whether the link pays the writer.

Q.Is a backtest return worthless?

A.In the Quantopian study the Sharpe ratio predicted almost nothing, while volatility and maximum drawdown were useful. Look for the deepest drop rather than the return.

Q.What about proof that the first month's profit really arrived?

A.The FSS alert says the promised payouts may be paid at first. Where the coins are held matters before the first deposit does.
