Oscar's Grind has a small goal: win exactly one unit per series and stop. After a loss you keep the same bet, after a win you raise by one unit, but never so much that you would pass the goal. Using the 8-deck rules of Evolution live baccarat at the Stake (stake.com) casino and assuming Player bets, we followed every possible path hand by hand. Ties are left out.
Here is the share of series that have reached the one-unit goal by each point.
Within 4 hands 67.9% Within 10 hands 84.4% Within 20 hands 93.3% Within 50 hands 98.3% Within 100 hands 99.4%
Two series in three are done within four hands. That is why Oscar's Grind feels like a system that rarely loses.
The trouble is in the rest. After 20 hands, 6.7% of series, about one in fifteen, have still not reached the goal. After 400 hands 0.08% are still running, and on average they are 2,421 units down with the bet grown to about 162 units. All of that for a series that set out to win one unit.
In practice you have to stop somewhere. We ended a series once its loss reached a set line and averaged the result of one series.
Stop at 20 units success 94.2% fail 5.8% average -0.11 units Stop at 50 units success 97.5% fail 2.5% average -0.17 units Stop at 100 units success 98.7% fail 1.3% average -0.23 units
A wider stop-loss raises the success rate but makes the average worse, because a single failure wipes out dozens of successes.
