Watch a baccarat table for a while and you will see some hands end after four cards, others go to five or six. The dealer does not decide this. There is a fixed table, and Evolution live baccarat at the Stake (stake.com) casino uses the same one. You never have to choose anything, but knowing it makes the screen much easier to follow.

Counting points

An ace is 1, 2 to 9 count as shown, and 10, J, Q and K are 0. Add the cards and keep only the last digit. A 7 and an 8 make 15, which is 5 points. The highest score is 9.

When it ends after two cards

Both sides get two cards. If either side has 8 or 9, that is a natural and the hand ends right there. Nobody draws a third card.

The player rule

Without a natural, the player side goes first. The rule is simple.

Player 0 to 5   draws one more card
Player 6 or 7   stands

The banker rule

If the player stood, the banker uses the same rule: draw on 0 to 5, stand on 6 or 7. If the player drew a third card, the banker decides by looking at that card.

Because the banker acts after seeing the player's card, banker wins slightly more often. The theoretical odds are banker 45.86%, player 44.62% and tie 9.52%. That gap is why 5% commission is taken from banker wins. In the clean shoes we collected, ties came out at 9.49%, the same as theory.
