In baccarat, a two-card total of 8 or 9 is called a natural, and the hand ends right there with no third card. Most hands where only four cards hit the table and the result appears at once are naturals. We counted every case with the same 8 decks (416 cards) used in Evolution live baccarat at the Stake (stake.com) casino.
Case Chance Player natural 18.94% Banker natural 18.94% Both natural 3.58% At least one natural 34.30%
Player and Banker receive their two cards the same way, so their chance of a natural is the same. Add the two and subtract the 3.58% overlap and you get 34.30%, roughly one hand in three. A shoe averages 67 hands, so that is about 23 naturals per shoe.
By the rules, once either side makes 8 or 9, neither side draws again. Even if the other side sits on a 2 or a 3, there is no third card to catch up. Of all hands, 32.52% are decided by a natural, and the other 1.79% are ties where both sides made the same natural. When a third card is drawn is covered in the third card rule.
A natural is settled by two cards, so it favours neither side. Banker's small edge comes from the drawing order, not from naturals. Picking a "table with lots of naturals" does not change the odds. How far prediction claims like this hold up against real shoe records is shown in the truth about baccarat prediction software.
