Doubts about a baccarat site usually start on the withdrawal screen. The site gives a reason.

We sorted those reasons into five situations and checked each against published documents. This post does not judge any particular site. The yardstick is what regulators have made public.

1.You press withdraw and the site asks for ID and proof of address

The UK Gambling Commission says online gambling businesses must check age and identity before you gamble. A business cannot make an ID check a condition of withdrawing if it could have asked earlier, except where the request is needed to meet legal obligations (UK age and ID verification guide).

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) splits this further. Duties such as anti-money laundering checks may justify a delay in paying out, it wrote, but they do not justify confiscation.

A term that takes the deposit balance because a document deadline passed is one the CMA told operators not to use.

2.The withdrawal stopped after you took a bonus

The reason heard most often is the wagering requirement: a bonus can be cashed out only after a set multiple of it has been bet.

Wagering requirement: the total to be bet before a bonus turns into cash, written as a multiple of the bonus.

The UK Gambling Commission splits the money into two pots (restrictions on withdrawing deposit guidance).

• Deposit balance: can be withdrawn even while a bonus is pending or active
• Bonus winnings: wagering requirements can apply
• Screen: the two balances must be shown separately and clearly

If your deposited money is also locked behind the wagering requirement, the terms differ from the UK rule.

The cost of meeting the requirement can be counted too. Evolution's rules give an optimal RTP of 98.94% on Banker, so 1.06% of every bet is the house share (Evolution baccarat rules).

Assume a 100,000 won bonus with a 30x requirement. That means betting 3,000,000 won, with an expected loss of 31,800 won.

At 10,000 won a hand that is 300 hands. A Speed table runs about 126 hands an hour, so it takes a little over 2 hours 20 minutes (Evolution baccarat table speeds).

In clean shoes we collected, Banker won 50.68% of hands with ties left out. As hands pile up, results gather around this expected value.

Check the terms for banned betting patterns as well. The CMA said promotion terms must spell out every prohibited type or pattern of play, and must not leave it to the operator alone to decide what counts as a breach.

With a wagering requirement, write down the multiple and the banned patterns before taking the bonus. Read afterwards, there are fewer choices left.

3.You hit a daily or monthly withdrawal limit

The CMA told operators not to cap the amount that can be withdrawn from the deposit balance. Identity checks the law requires can still happen before a withdrawal.

The UK Gambling Commission says that when a player withdraws less than the full balance, the size or number of separate withdrawals can be reasonably limited. A withdrawal fee cannot exceed the direct processing cost.

4.The balance was frozen over "multiple accounts"

The CMA said penalties for cheating such as multiple accounts, collusion or software manipulation must sit in terms separate from bonus restrictions. It also accepted that operators can act against real cheating.

So in this case, get in writing which term was applied and what record it was based on.

5.Nothing has worked. Where next?

With a UK-licensed business, complain to the business first. It has 8 weeks to resolve the complaint, and you cannot go straight to an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider without using its process (UK how to complain).

Article 746 says a person who handed over property for an illegal cause cannot claim it back, unless the illegal cause lies only with the recipient (Korean Civil Act).
