Hands per hour

Median time between hands, speed tables and regular tables.

A speed baccarat hand took a median of 26 seconds, a regular table 37 seconds. Playing a speed table without a break gives about 138 hands an hour. Leave out ties and roughly 125 of them actually settle a banker bet.

The cost of each bet

On clean shoes, every unit bet on banker loses 1.15% on average. At 10 dollars a hand for an hour that is 125 bets times 10 dollars times 1.15%, about 14 dollars. That cost builds up a little every hour, and it is the one part you can count on.

The swing inside an hour

The swing over that same hour is far larger. For 125 bets of 10 dollars, one standard deviation is about 110 dollars, roughly eight times the average cost. That is why one or two hours, or a single day, look close to a coin flip between winning and losing. In real shoes with the same stake on banker every hand, 47.3% of shoes finished ahead and 52.7% finished behind.

When the hours add up

The swing grows with the square root of time, while the cost grows in step with time. After 100 hours the cost is about 1,440 dollars and the swing about 1,100 dollars. The longer you go, the more the cost outweighs the swing. Raising stakes the martingale way does not change that ratio either. The 1.15% simply applies to everything you wagered.

A daily profit screenshot shows one end of the swing. People standing at the other end that day rarely post. Looking at a whole month of total wagers and the one-percent-plus taken from them is closer to reality than any single day.
