Three lines first
Search YouTube for a ChatGPT side hustle in Korean and the top five videos add up to more than 550,000 views (checked November 1, 2026). Most titles are about how much someone made in a day or a month.
There is one question those videos barely touch. When an ebook or article made with ChatGPT is sold, how much of it counts as the seller's own?
The top search results list blog drafts, ebooks, translation and proofreading, and affiliate link posts. All of them are about making text or images and handing them to someone or uploading them to a store.
Since the product is text, the questions follow.
Can copying be stopped, will the store accept it, and what happens when someone else turns up with almost the same text?

AI-generated vs AI-assisted: KDP's split. Created by an AI tool, or written by a person and only refined with AI.
OpenAI's Terms of Use say that, to the extent permitted by law, the user owns the Output, and OpenAI assigns to the user whatever rights it has in it (OpenAI Terms of Use).
The same terms also say this.
Because of the nature of AI, output may not be unique, and other users may receive similar output.
The terms hand over only what the company holds, and do not stop someone else from getting similar text.
Article 2(1) of Korea's Copyright Act defines a work as a creative production expressing human thoughts or feelings (Copyright Act). Protection is tied to human expression.
In its January 29, 2025 report, the US Copyright Office concluded that with current technology, prompts alone do not give users enough control to be the authors of the output (US Copyright Office report). Parts a person modified, and creative selection and arrangement, are assessed separately.
The Korea Copyright Commission posted a registration guide for works made using generative AI on June 30, 2025 (Copyright Commission guide). Anyone thinking about registration should start with the original.
Amazon KDP's content guidelines require publishers to tell KDP about AI-generated content when publishing a new book (KDP guidelines). Text an AI created stays AI-generated even after substantial edits.
If a person wrote the text and refined it with AI, or only traded ideas with AI and wrote the text themselves, it is AI-assisted. KDP says that does not need to be disclosed.
In September 2023 KDP capped new titles at three a day, and told the Authors Guild the number may be adjusted if needed (Authors Guild news).
The stock photo site Shutterstock does not accept AI-generated content from contributors for licensing. Its payout rules are in the computer side job post.

Take an assumed example, one ebook on side jobs made two ways.
In one, ChatGPT supplies the outline and the whole text, and only spelling gets fixed. In the other, the text is written by hand and ChatGPT only polishes sentences and suggests titles.
Under KDP, the first is AI-generated and must be disclosed at upload. The second is AI-assisted and has no disclosure duty.
Copyright splits the same way.
In the first, the human share of expression is about as narrow as spelling fixes. In the second, the handwritten text is human expression as it stands.
With the same topic and length, where the human hand went changes the answer of all three documents at once.

Records showing what a person did only come into being during the work. Keeping drafts written by hand, before and after versions, and the prompts and answers with dates makes it easier to explain later.
Store rules differ from place to place.
Checking the AI section of that store's help pages right before uploading is the safer habit. Terms change too, so this post only quotes sentences checked on November 1, 2026.
