The first job in baccarat bankroll management is splitting the bankroll into pieces. One piece here means one full ladder: the money needed to hold out to the last step you chose. We worked out piece counts with real shoes collected from Evolution live baccarat at the Stake (stake.com) casino.

The price of one ladder

In a doubling martingale with a first bet of 1, one ladder costs 31 for 5 steps, 63 for 6, 127 for 7 and 255 for 8. Each extra step nearly doubles it.

One piece ends in one go

If your bankroll is exactly one ladder, the first full break takes all of it. Betting banker every hand, the ladder broke all the way about 39 times per 100 shoes at 6 steps, 19 at 7 steps and 9 at 8 steps. Even at 8 steps that is roughly once every eleven shoes. Start with one piece and that one break is the end.

Two ways to get more pieces

With the same bankroll, you get more pieces by lowering the first bet or cutting steps. With 1,000 dollars and 8 steps, a 3 dollar first bet just fits one ladder (765 dollars). Drop to 7 steps and a 3 dollar first bet gives two ladders (381 dollars each). Lower the first bet to 1 dollar and you get three 8-step ladders.

How many is right

There is no single answer. But if you want to carry on with the same settings the day after a break, you need at least two pieces. When you set take-profit and stop-loss as a percent of the bankroll, knowing what percent one piece is makes the lines easier to choose.
