49.95%. That is how often the opposite side of the last hand came up in 51,978 clean shoes we actually collected. The same side came up 50.05% of the time.
Baccarat opposite betting usually means betting on that opposite side. The phrase is used in a few different ways, so we sort out the meanings first and then put numbers on the one we can count.
Search results and videos use it in three main ways.
Opposite betting: betting against the trend or the majority. In baccarat, usually against the last hand.
What other people bet is not recorded anywhere, so it cannot be counted. This post looks only at betting against the last hand, using real shoes.
The data are shoes that started between 9 September and 20 October 2026. They come from 73 tables across six room types, were recorded to the end, and have no collection errors where two hands are logged less than 12 seconds apart.
This is how we counted.
The opposite side came up 49.951% of the time and the same side 50.049%. Betting against the last hand did not win more than half the time.
The arithmetic gives the same answer. With banker at 50.68% in clean shoes, the chance of the same side is 50.68%² + 49.32%² = 50.009%.
The real figure of 50.049% is 0.04 points away. With three million cases, random noise alone moves the result by about 0.057 points either way, so the gap sits inside that band.
Some say fast rooms chop more often, so we split the count by room type.

Speed rooms, with 44,970 shoes, came in at 49.94%. Regular rooms were 49.76%, super speed 50.20%, squeeze 50.18%, no commission 49.97% and lightning 50.03%, all close to 50%.
Regular rooms at 49.76% look furthest away, but with 75,000 cases the noise band is about ±0.36 points. The figure sits inside it, so it is hard to call it an effect of the room type.
A shoe with a long chop leaves a row of one-cell columns across the big road, and it stays in memory. A shoe with long streaks is easier to forget.
Counted hand by hand, the two come up equally often. Whether streaks and chops of each length carry on into the next hand is counted separately in our baccarat pattern flow post.
We assumed the same stake on the opposite side of the last hand every time. Banker pays 0.95 to 1 and a tie returns the stake, the standard payouts. No commission and lightning rooms pay differently, so they are left out, which leaves 49,018 shoes and 3,184,493 bets.

Betting opposite did not shrink the loss, and it came out almost the same as betting player only. Opposite betting ends up switching between banker and player, so its result is a mix of the two sides' losses.
At $10 a hand for 100 hands, that is an average loss of about $12.25 ($10 and 100 hands are assumptions for the arithmetic). Shoe by shoe, 47.07% of shoes ended in profit for the opposite bettor and 52.93% ended in a loss.
When you bet against the last hand, every repeat of the same side is a loss. So the losing streak is the big road column length minus one.

The longest losing streak in each shoe had a median of 5 and an average of 5.24. One shoe in ten, 10.02%, had a run of 8 or more losses in a row. 10 or more happened in 2.49% of shoes, and the longest was 21.
Why a win does not become due after a run of losses is explained in our gambler's fallacy post.
Searching for reverse betting also brings up fraud news. It has nothing to do with betting against the last hand in baccarat.
According to the Seoul Shinmun on 12 February 2026, Jeju police arrested four members of a Cambodia based reverse betting investment fraud ring in Thailand and brought them back to Korea. There were 838 victims and losses of about 27 billion won (Seoul Shinmun report).
Police said the ring paid out a few times at first, pushed victims to raise their stakes, then made them lose.
An offer to pay you for betting the opposite side on someone's instructions is a sign of fraud, not of baccarat odds. Police asked people to stop sending money and report it when promised high returns over a short time.
The opposite side came up 49.95% of the time, and betting only opposite lost about as much as betting player only.
