How to close casino account access the right way, and why closing, a time-out and self-exclusion handle your balance differently

6 weeks. That is the longest time-out the UK Gambling Commission requires online operators to offer. Anyone who wants to stop for longer has to move to a tool with a different name.

Searching how to close a casino account usually ends at one of three buttons: close the account, take a time-out, or self-exclude. We answered four questions about leaving a baccarat site using only the numbers in the regulators' own texts.

1.Is closing the account enough?

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) describes a general account closure and a self-exclusion separately. A general closure can be reopened by asking customer support (MGA FAQ).

Account closure: shutting an account on one site. No fixed length, and it can be reopened.

The same page says that when a player tells the operator they have a gambling problem or have lost control, the operator should apply a self-exclusion instead of a plain closure.

If the reason for leaving is control, choosing self-exclusion from the start fits what the rules intend.

2.What is the button for a few days off?

That is the time-out.

UK licence condition 3.3.4 says operators must offer 24 hours, one week, one month, or another period the customer reasonably asks for, up to 6 weeks (UK Gambling Commission 3.3.4).

A time-out ends and the account works again. To stop for longer than 6 weeks, go to the next question.

3.What changes with self-exclusion?

Self-exclusion: an agreement under which the site blocks a person from gambling for a period they choose.

The account and the money left in it

UK licence condition 3.5.3 is a social responsibility code, which operators must follow. It says they must close every account of a person who has self-excluded and return any funds held in it (UK Gambling Commission 3.5.3).

The text adds that merely preventing withdrawals is not sufficient. Under the UK rules, self-exclusion means the balance goes back to the customer.

Marketing

The same condition says no marketing should reach a self-excluded customer. The operator has two days from receiving the request to remove them from marketing databases, and must point them to counselling and support.

Length

The numbers sit in 3.5.4, an ordinary code that sets out good practice. The shortest option should be no less than 6 and no more than 12 months, and the longest should reach at least five years (UK Gambling Commission 3.5.4). Extensions come in steps of at least 6 months.

There is no cooling-off period before it starts, so it can be set the moment someone decides. Condition 3.5.3 also asks operators to accept requests both through customer services and through an automated process on the site, so anyone who cannot find the menu can simply ask customer services for self-exclusion.

After the period ends

A self-exclusion does not lift by itself when the period ends. Under 3.5.4 it stays in place for at least 7 years unless the customer actively asks to return.

Coming back has its own steps.

Signing up online again is not enough. The customer has to make contact by phone or in person, and then gets one day to cool off.

4.Can several sites be blocked at once?

A self-exclusion set on one site only covers that site.

Britain has GAMSTOP, which covers online operators licensed in Great Britain in one go. Its sign-up page offers 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, or 5 years with auto-renewal, and says it takes effect within 24 hours. It costs nothing (GAMSTOP sign-up).

GAMSTOP does not reach sites outside the British licence. For those, ask each site's customer services for a self-exclusion one by one.

In Korea, Article 246 of the Criminal Act makes gambling an offence, and the Korea Center on Gambling Problems runs a helpline on 1336 every day of the year. Elsewhere, the local regulator's site lists help lines.

5.The one-line answer

For a few days off take a time-out, to stop because control is slipping choose self-exclusion, and when self-excluding check that the remaining balance came back.

Hiddenpick is a Windows program that keeps on its server the betting rules that pick owners do not make public, and runs them as they are on the PC of the person who received them through a referral code. It currently runs on Evolution live baccarat at Stake (stake.com). The program only detects the browser the user logged into personally and does not touch account settings, and the full flow is in the baccarat bot guide. We are recruiting national pickster representatives, and those selected receive benefits worth $12,000, a one-year pass (apply at hiddenpick.my/pickster).
