How to choose online casino sites for baccarat: the hourly cost of table speed, No Commission and fees

1.06%. That is the house's share when you bet Banker in 8-deck baccarat. Under standard card rules and payouts, the number is the same at every site.

So when you work out how to choose online casino sites for baccarat with numbers, the question changes. It becomes how many times per hour that 1.06% is applied, and what gets added on top of it.

1.The number a baccarat site cannot change

Under standard 8-deck rules the house edge is 1.06% on Banker, 1.24% on Player and 14.36% on Tie (house edge 1.06%). With the same game provider and the same rules, the site's name does not move it.

In clean collected shoes, Banker won 50.68% of hands with ties left out. That works out to about -1.15% per bet, close to the theory.

House edge: the average share of money wagered that does not come back over many repeats.

The math below uses the theoretical 1.06%, which applies the same way at every site. Assuming $10 a hand, that is 10.6 cents per hand.

What a site changes sits outside those 10.6 cents.

2.Table speed: how many times an hour the 10.6 cents adds up

Sites open different tables. Some lean on Speed tables, others also run regular and Squeeze tables. Different table types deal a different number of hands per hour.

We counted hands from real collected shoes. We took back-to-back shoes at the same table and divided by the time from one shoe's first hand to the next shoe's first hand, so shuffle time is included.

  • Squeeze: 57 hands an hour
  • Regular: 96 hands an hour
  • Speed: 126 hands an hour
  • Super Speed: 176 hands an hour

Multiply the hand count by 10.6 cents and you get the expected loss per hour. The assumption is still $10 on Banker every hand.

An hour of Squeeze costs $6.04, and an hour of Super Speed costs $18.66.

The disadvantage per hand is identical, yet the cost per hour is a little over three times higher. In between, Speed comes to $13.36 and regular to $10.18. Over three hours, the Speed table costs $9.54 more.

Playing by hand, the difference also shows up as breathing room. Super Speed had a median gap of 19 seconds between hands, and betting, the deal and the result all fit inside it.

More hands also means meeting rare events sooner on the clock. At Speed tables, 10 losses in a row came about once every 23 hours (10 losses in a row). At a table with fewer hands, the same thing arrives later.

A fast table is not a bad table. It just puts more money in play every hour.

So set an hourly budget and divide it by the hand count to get a stake per hand. For example, with an hourly budget of $10 in expected loss, a $10 stake roughly fits a regular table, while Super Speed needs a stake in the $5 range for the same cost.

When you look at a site, check first whether the lobby has Squeeze, regular and Speed tables open separately. The range of speeds you can pick from is the range of your hourly cost.

3.5% commission vs No Commission over 100 hands

Under standard rules a winning Banker bet pays 0.95 to 1. No Commission tables pay 1 to 1 but only half when Banker wins with a 6. That rule raises the Banker house edge to 1.46% (No Commission baccarat).

At $10 for 100 hands, standard rules cost $10.60 and No Commission $14.60. For a Banker bettor, No Commission is a rule that costs $4 more every 100 hands. Player bets are 1.24% under both rules.

Per hour, 98 hands of No Commission come to $14.31 and 96 regular hands to $10.18.

The speed is nearly the same, but the cost differs by 40%.

If a site seems to show only No Commission tables, look for separate standard-rule tables. The words No Commission in the table name tell them apart.

4.Turning deposit and withdrawal fees into hands

Deposit and withdrawal fees differ by site and payment method, and we did not check any particular site's fees for this post. So the numbers here are assumed.

If moving $1,000 in and out costs 2% round trip, that is $20. Divided by the 10.6 cents expected loss of a $10 Banker hand, it equals 189 hands.

That is an hour and a half at a Speed table.

126 hands times 1.5 is 189. One round trip of fees costs about the same as playing an extra hour and a half, and the same 2% repeats every time you move money. Write down the deposit rate, the withdrawal rate, any fixed fee and the minimum withdrawal separately, and put them into the math.

5.What numbers cannot check: licence and terms

For the licence, take the number shown at the bottom of the site and look it up on the issuing authority's official register. The same company name and domain should come up.

A badge image alone proves nothing.

In the terms, search for clauses with words like automated, bot or software. Whether automated betting programs are allowed is usually written near them.

In Korea, Article 246 of the Criminal Act (gambling, habitual gambling) makes gambling a punishable offence (Korea Law Information Center). The math in this post assumes play where local law allows it.

3-line summary

  • The 1.06% Banker house edge under standard rules is the same at every site; what differs is what gets added on top
  • At an assumed $10 a hand, the expected loss per hour runs from $6.04 at Squeeze to $18.66 at Super Speed
  • No Commission adds $4 per 100 hands, and an assumed 2% round-trip fee costs as much as 189 hands
