Instagram monetization requirements and automation, the 24 hours, 7 days and 100 posts in Meta's own docs as a timetable

At 2 am a scheduled reel goes live, and anyone who comments one word gets an automatic DM with a link. That is the scene most videos about automated Instagram income paint.

Every part of it is written down in Meta's developer docs in units of time: 24 hours, 7 days, 100 posts. We traced which parts are official features, where the Terms of Use step in, and what the Instagram monetization requirements are, using the original numbers.

1.Publishing automation the official API allows

Scheduled posting is an official feature. The content publishing API is for professional accounts, and personal accounts are not covered (content publishing docs).

The rate limit section of that page allows 100 API-published posts in a 24-hour moving period. The carousel section of the same page still says 50 published posts in 24 hours.

With 100 and 50 on the same page, planning a day around the lower 50 is the safer choice. Each account can check what is left through the content_publishing_limit endpoint.

A carousel holds up to 10 photos and videos combined, and JPEG is the only image format. Shopping tags and filters cannot be added through the API.

2.The time windows for DM automation

Time window: how long after a user's action an app may send a message. After it closes, no automated message can go out.

No automated cold DMs

Through the messaging API an app can only reply after the user has messaged first (messaging API docs). Sending promotional DMs to accounts that never wrote in is not an official API feature.

Group messages are not supported either.

That line matters when choosing a DM tool. A tool built on the official API cannot go past these windows, and a tool advertising more than that is more likely to run into the terms in the next section.

24 hours and 7 days

A reply goes out within 24 hours of the user's message. If the chat started from an ad that opens Direct, the window can stretch to up to 7 days.

When a human agent answers, a tag opens a separate 7-day window. That 7-day window is for people replying, so it is not a way to stretch automated replies.

DMs for people who comment

The official route for messaging someone who commented is a private reply. Each commenter can receive one message, sent within 7 days of the comment on the post or reel (private replies docs).

Further messages can only follow if the person replies, and within 24 hours of that reply.

For people who do not follow the account, the message lands in requests.

Saying it is automated

Where the law requires it, an automated chat must tell people they are talking to an automated service. The docs name California and Germany as examples and recommend disclosing even where it is not required.

3.Automation the terms block

The Terms of Use ban creating accounts or collecting information in an automated way without Instagram's express permission. Buying, selling or licensing accounts or data from the service is banned too (Instagram Terms of Use).

Meta's spam policy does not allow posting, engaging or creating accounts at very high frequency, whether manually or automatically. Selling, buying or exchanging likes, follows and views falls under the same policy (Meta spam policy).

Programs that crawl hashtags to like and follow automatically run into these two rules first.

4.Instagram monetization requirements

Subscriptions need a professional account with at least 10,000 followers and an owner aged 18 or older. South Korea is on the list of available countries (subscriptions eligibility).

Gifts on reels need at least 500 followers, age 18 or older and a payout account. The page says creators receive $.01 per star from fans, paid monthly (gifts eligibility).

The Terms of Use set the sign-up age at 14, so the age to open an account and the age to be paid differ.

The content monetization policies exclude static-image videos, photo slideshows, text montages and content reposted without meaningful changes (content monetization policies). Card-news posts churned out automatically overlap with exactly this list.
