Wagering requirements on a baccarat site bonus, the UK 10x cap and a 60x term set side by side on the same $100

Sign-up is done and a first deposit bonus banner fills the middle of the screen. The claim button is large. The terms link under it is small grey text.

The size of a bonus is not the number on the banner. Wagering requirements and a few other lines in the terms have to be turned into an amount to bet before the real size shows.

This post does not recommend any site or offer. It sets the standard written by a UK regulator next to heavier terms, all on the same $100.

1.The lines worth turning into numbers

The UK Gambling Commission's glossary lists the significant terms of a promotion: who is excluded, time limits, how to qualify, maximum stake size and wagering requirements (UK Gambling Commission glossary).

The same glossary says that when contributions to wagering differ between games, the operator should say so and link clearly to the details.

Contribution rate: the share of each bet that counts toward wagering. At 10%, only a tenth counts.

An example from the UK Competition and Markets Authority in 2018 is a good starting point. After depositing £20 and getting a £20 bonus, a player could find they had to wager at least £800 before withdrawing (CMA blog).

The bonus was £20, and the amount to wager was forty times that.

2.The same $100 bonus under four terms

The UK Gambling Commission consulted on a full ban on wagering requirements and on caps of 1, 5 and 10 times. It chose the most lenient, 10 times, in force from 19 January 2026 (Commission decision summary).

The same response notes that some licensees were applying up to 60 times (wagering section).

Assume a $100 bonus and put four terms side by side.

UK cap of 10x: $1,000 to wager
35x (assumed): $3,500
60x in use: $6,000, the level the Commission found
Combined 35x: 35 times the deposit plus bonus of $200, so $7,000

Expected cost uses -1.15% per banker bet, from the 50.68% banker share in 38,456 clean shoes we collected. That comes to about $12 at 10x, $69 at 60x and about $81 for 35x on deposit plus bonus.

At an assumed $10 a hand, 10x is 100 hands and 35x on deposit plus bonus is 700 hands. One phrase in front of the multiple, "bonus" or "deposit and bonus", changes the hand count sevenfold.

A 10x cap does not touch contribution rates

In the same decision, the Commission said it did not think it necessary to review rules on weightings at this time. The example a respondent gave was blackjack at 50% and roulette at 30%.

The baccarat contribution is whatever the site's table says. Assuming 10%, meeting a 10x requirement takes $10,000 in bets, or 1,000 hands.

At a 10% contribution, the expected cost of a 10x term is about $115, more than the bonus itself.

Under 35x the bets add up to $35,000 and the expected cost to about $403. The cap limits the multiple only, and a low contribution rate brings the real amount to wager back up.

A bonus only shows its size once the multiple and the contribution rate are multiplied and set against the cost.

3.What changed on the same day

From the same date the Commission also banned bonuses that mix products. Its example was a sign-up offer combining free bets with free casino spins.

As a reason, it said high wagering requirements attached to bonuses can lead to a higher intensity of gambling.

The cap and the ban apply to operators licensed in Great Britain. Terms elsewhere may still carry 60x.

The glossary also defines play restrictions, actions not permitted on a game alone or together with a promotion. Whether the terms spell out which betting patterns are barred during a bonus is worth checking in the same place.

Gambling law differs by country. In South Korea, Article 246 of the Criminal Act makes gambling punishable. These figures assume the local law allows it.

Before claiming a baccarat site bonus

Base amount: noted whether the multiple applies to the bonus or to deposit plus bonus
Contribution: checked the baccarat percentage in the table
Maximum bet: noted the per-hand limit while the bonus is active
Time limit: noted the date the requirement must be met by
Barred play: checked that restricted betting patterns are spelled out
Cost check: multiplied the amount to wager by 1.15% and compared it with the bonus
