Evolution Lightning Baccarat vs regular baccarat: what comes back after the 20% fee

Evolution Lightning Baccarat takes $12 from your balance for a $10 bet. How much of that extra $2 comes back on average?

On YouTube, a search for lightning baccarat brings up big-win clips and casino stream sessions near the top. This post looks at the other side, the fee, and lines it up against regular baccarat using the numbers in Evolution's published rules.

1.What Lightning Baccarat changes

The card rules stay the same. It uses eight decks, and the third-card table matches regular baccarat cell for cell.

The difference starts after betting closes. One to five Lightning cards are drawn from a virtual 52-card pack, each with a 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 8x multiplier. If a winning hand holds one of those cards, the payout is multiplied (Evolution Lightning Baccarat rules).

Several Lightning cards in one hand multiply together. Three 8x cards make 8 x 8 x 8 = 512x, and the rules list Player at 1 to 512:1.

Lightning fee: 20% of the bet, added every round. The rules' own example: bet 5, fee 1, total 6.

The base tie payout drops from 8:1 to 5:1 and can rise to 1,310,720:1 with multipliers. On a tie, Player and Banker bets are returned. The fee on those bets is not returned.

These rules are the English copy that Loto-Québec, the Quebec government lottery corporation, posts on its own site. Evolution's game page describes the same 20% fee and 1 to 5 Lightning cards (Evolution game page).

XXXtreme Lightning Baccarat, which shows up in many video results, is a different game. Evolution lists a 50% fee and 4 to 8 Lightning cards for it (XXXtreme Lightning Baccarat).

2.Side by side with regular baccarat: RTP and the cost of the same money

To put both games on one scale, use RTP: the share of the money staked that comes back on average. Our baccarat RTP post explains how it is counted.

The regular baccarat rules give an RTP of 98.94% for the Banker bet (Evolution Baccarat rules). Player at 98.76% and an 8:1 Tie at 85.64% are 8-deck theory, counted over every case of the 416 cards.

Regular Player and Tie RTP are 8-deck theory; the other figures come from Evolution's rules.

The Lightning rules list Player 98.76%, Banker 98.59% and Tie 94.51%. The first thing to check is what those percentages are measured against.

A Lightning Player bet still pays the regular 1:1 when no Lightning card is involved, with multipliers on top. Measured on the $10 alone, the figure would have to be above 98.76%, so it only adds up as a share of the full $12 including the fee.

Read that way, a $10 Player bet gets back 98.76% of $12 on average, the same rate regular baccarat pays on $10. The $2 fee also comes back at 98.76% on average, about $1.98, through multipliers.

Regular Player loses 12.4 cents per $10 on average, and Lightning Player 14.9 cents per $12.

That is a gap of about 2.5 cents a round.

On the Banker side the order flips. In regular baccarat, Banker is the cheapest spot at 10.6 cents per $10. Lightning Banker loses 16.9 cents per $12, more than Lightning Player.

Tie loses less in Lightning. Regular Tie costs $1.44 per $10 on average, Lightning Tie 66 cents per $12.

Tie is still the most expensive of the three spots, though. The pair bets slip a little, from 89.64% in regular to 88.35% in Lightning.

Put a number of rounds on it and the gap turns into money. Assume $10 a round for 300 rounds.

In the 2,422 shoes we collected from three Lightning tables (154,995 rounds, 9 September to 7 October 2026), the median gap between rounds was 36 seconds. At that pace, 300 rounds take about three hours.

$10 for 300 rounds is an assumption. Each bar is the total staked times 100% minus RTP.
▲ $10 for 300 rounds is an assumption. Each bar is the total staked times 100% minus RTP.

Total staked comes to $3,000 in regular baccarat and $3,600 in Lightning, fee included. The average cost: regular Banker $31.80, regular Player $37.20, Lightning Player $44.64, Lightning Banker $50.76.

Over the same three hours, the average cost differs by up to 1.6 times depending on the game and the spot.

Two regular tables we collected (Baccarat A and B) also ran at a 36-second median, so the gap holds per hour too.

Ties show the fee in real rounds as well. They made up 9.65% of those 154,995 Lightning rounds, so about one round in ten returns the Player or Banker bet and keeps the $2 fee.

3.What the average does not show

$1.98 is an average. Multipliers apply only in rounds where a Lightning card lands in the winning hand, and every other round pays the base rate.

The rules give no figure for how often multipliers hit.

A round without Lightning cards is simple arithmetic. A winning $10 Player bet wins $10, and with the $2 fee paid, $8 is left. A losing one costs $12.

Once the number of rounds is set, the total fee and the average cost can be written down before starting.
▲ Once the number of rounds is set, the total fee and the average cost can be written down before starting.

Winnings have a ceiling too. The rules say total winnings per round are limited, so the part of a big multiplier above that limit is not paid. The published RTP is also based on a maximum bet on a single spot.

Raising the stake in steps grows the fee with it. As an assumed example, doubling from $10 through six steps ($10, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320) puts $630 on the table, or $756 with the fee.

4.In one line

Evolution Lightning Baccarat returns most of its fee on average, but per $10 bet Lightning Player loses 4.3 cents more than regular Banker, and Lightning Banker 6.3 cents more.
